Kitchen and Laundry
Cooking Utensils, Illicit Still and Laundry Equipment

The close juxtaposition of old and new items enables the visitor to see the advances in technology of domestic kitchen and laundry items.

Key features are the still for making illicit alcohol, the iron stove and the wooden sink.

A significant item of old Devon kitchens was a cloam oven which was heated up by a fire within. When hot, the fire was raked out and a bread mix put in and the door sealed up with clay.
