Help us add a rare posy ring to our collection
We are hoping to raise £800 to purchase a beautiful gold and enamel posy ring dating to around 1700, recently found by a detectorist near Wembworthy. This part of Mid Devon is currently under-represented in our collection, and the ring would be a wonderful addition to our small group of post-medieval rings.
The ring is inscribed with the romantic words:
“As I prove I wish your love.”
Posy rings were popular in the 15th–17th centuries as tokens of love and friendship. Their inscriptions were often concealed inside the band, and it was believed that wearing words against the skin gave them extra poignancy.
We would love your help to bring this special object into the museum, ensuring it can be cared for and enjoyed by future generations.
