There are plenty of ways to get involved with your local museum.
As we are a registered charity, volunteers play a vital role, both front of house and behind the scenes. Over 80 people currently give their time to keep the museum running. This equates to well over £100,000 added value to the work done at the museum in one year!
At the moment we are looking for volunteers who can help with the following:
- Working with our Reminisence Therapy service taking out themed boxes to people livung in care or residential homes. Post holders will be CRB checked. Traning will be provided.
- Working with our Education Department to help to deliver sessions to schools who visit the museum. Post holders will be CRB checked.
- Working on the front desk welcoming visitors and selling items from our shop. This requires using a till (training provided).
We support all of our volunteers and offer training and guidance that is appropriate to every role.
We are able to support a small number of work experience placements each year. Applicants for work experience at the museum must contact us in writing (email is ok) telling us about yourself (including educational details) and why you want to do work experience in the museum along with your relevant interests or knowledge. Don’t forget to tell us when you are hoping to undertake work experience, and the student must contact us themselves.
